GARIOCH swimmers took third place in this year’s Hunting Trophy at Westhill on Saturday (March 23), pushing hosts Westhill and eventual winners Coast, very hard in an exciting and enjoyable day of swimming.
To give an indication of the all-round success of the team, 24 swimmers swam a total of 66 races, with personal best times being recorded in 58 of these and 13 medals being won altogether.
Medals were won by:
Finley Cousins (9): Gold in 100 breast; Bronze in 100 freestyle; Chloe Grant (12): Silver in 100 fly; Hazel Johnston (15): Bronze in 100 fly; Heather McIntosh (12): Bronze in 100 breast; Sophie McPhee (13): Bronze in 100 freestyle; Bronze in 100 backstroke; Connor Morrison(15): Bronze in 100 freestyle; Bronze in 100 backstroke; Sophie Stewart (13): Silver in 100 breast; Bill Whitcombe (9): Gold in 100 back; Silver in 100 breast; Silver in 100 free
In addition, there were excellent performances from a number of swimmers in the 9 year-old category, many who were swimming in their first important competition. Rebecca Aitken, Tara-Nicole Buchan, Caitlin Dick, Kirsty Harrison, Jessica Johnson and Ellice McIntosh should all be very proud of their achievements. There were also very good swims from other inexperienced swimmers Isla Johnston, Ruth Norrie and Lauren Stewart. For the older swimmers, Avery Collins, Daniel McKenzie, brothers Daniel and Phelim McNally, Lauren McPhee, Stewart Seymour and Louis Zeegers all improved on previous times.
As ever, the swimmers were ably supported by a variety of parents who helped poolside and in a range of official roles, and for their willingness in giving up their time, the club is extremely grateful.
