TWO of the Garioch Gymnastics Club’s gymnasts, Izzy Tolometti (12) from Alford and Alix Still (11) from Kemnay travelled with their coach, Janine Robertson, to Guildford for the British Espoir Challenge Championships.
Both girls competed very well and although they weren’t amongst the medals, they both increased their start values and against some of the best gymnasts in Britain they kept their cool and performed extremely well.
Garioch Gymnastics Club are very proud of both gymnasts. Keep up the hard work girls.
While all the Garioch gymnasts were taking part in the recent Club Championships, Senior Elite gymnast Izzy Tolometti was representing Scotland at the Puzeulo Cup in Madrid on Saturday, (June 16).
This was Izzy’s second International cap for Scotland.
She had a brilliant competition scoring a massive 44.25, her personal best for this year. She placed 9th Overall and won a Bronze medal for her bar routine. All at the Club are very proud of you Izzy.
NORTH East MSP Alex Johnstone took the opportunity to visit Garioch Gymnastics Club this week during their Elite Gymnastics Camp at the Garioch Community Centre.
The visit was a follow up to an event, sponsored by the MSP in the Scottish Parliament last month, which celebrated Scottish Gymnastics and in which Garioch club members participated.
As well as seeing many of the clubs talented gymnasts as they received specialist training, the North East MSP met with head coach Trish Swan to discuss the needs of gymnasts in the North East and their prospects of increasing success in the future.
The club currently has 90 young people already competing or preparing for competition and, with the addition of an extra class after the summer, the club will also have 380 youngsters involved in once a week recreational classes.
This means that a total of 470 participants are keeping active with the support of Garioch Gymnastic Club and their dedicated coaching team.
Speaking after the visit, Alex Johnstone said, “I am enormously impresses by the dedication of these young people who have committed themselves to a week of intensive training during the school holidays and I wish them every success in the future.”
