Garioch Gymnasts had the competition of their life at the Scottish Level 6 & 5 Team Championships on Saturday and Sunday (October 18 and 19) in Perth, winning both team titles on offer.
Level 6 Team Championships:
The Garioch B team competed first on the Saturday and performed exceptionally with some lovely routines from a very young team.
The Garioch A team were in the last round, late Saturday afternoon. The coaches knew they had the potential to win if they went clean but they were up against some tough competition. In the end thanks to some fantastic scores, especially on Asymmetric Bars the Garioch team emerged victorious with a score of 173.450.Individual results:
Kirsten Wood: First Overall; Morgan James: Second Overall; Olivia Allan-Cook: Fifth Overall with all five members of the A Team placing in the top 10 on Asymmetric bars in the country.
Team A: Kirsten Wood, Morgan James, Olivia Allan-Cook, Faye Mark and Eilidh Gault
Team B: Savannah Cordiner, Brooke Mathieson, Amy Smith, Grace Mackie and Milly Ironside
Level 5 Team Championships:
Once again the Garioch team were in the last round of the competition so it was a nail biting fight to the finish. It looked to be very close in scores to second and third but in the end the glitter girls lived up to their name and scored a massive 137.101 (almost a whole three points away from second place, a huge margin in gymnastics).
Once again individually the girls placed First and Second.
Eryn Thom: First Overall; Olivia Cordiner: Second Overall
Other team members: Hannah Redfern; Fifth Overall and Elsie Willcocks: Sixth Overall.
Garioch Gymnastics Club would like to congratulate the girls and their coaches, Miree McCourt, Beth Rendall, Jamie Czop to name only a few, but in particular Trish Swan, for this amazing success.
This is a remarkable achievement for a club with a relatively small catchment area and no full time training facility. To be able to produce gymnasts who can compete well at every level of gymnastics in Scotland,
Britain and Internationally, from Floor & Vault Competitions up to potential Commonwealth Games, is not easy and Garioch are proving themselves to be one of the only clubs in Scotland that can do it. Not only has no club ever won both Level 6 & Level 5 team titles in the same year but no club has ever won them both before.
There is no doubt the reason behind Garioch’s success is their knowledgeable, experienced and enthusiastic coaching team.
The Club are also extremely grateful to the Garioch Community Centre in Inverurie for allowing them the access they get and the amount of equipment they have.
