Inverurie’s Stuart McWatt just missed out on a medal at the 2015 Junior European Judo Championships in Oberwart, Austria.
On Saturday he was in action in the -81kg category and after receiving a bye into the second round produced some powerful judo to see off Yahor Varapayeu (Belarus), Idan Vardi (Israel) and Dominik Druzeta (Croatia) in his first three contests to secure a place in the final four against Dutch judoka Frank De Wit.
In an exciting encounter Stuart had a score wiped off and as a result was unable to come back, losing out by two shidos.
This put him into the bronze medal contest where he lost out in a hard-fought encounter to Joao Martinho, of Portugal.
Stuart will next be in action at the Glasgow European Judo Open at the Emirates Arena on Saturday, October 10.
