Legion “B” win tense league decider

The Ellon darts league came to a dramatic conclusion last week when Legion “B” took on Station “A” in a winner-takes-all title decider.

Both sides were level on 42 points going into the final league matc.

The home side started the brighter at the Legion and raced to a 3-0 lead after the doubles. Station then won both of the trebles to cut the arrears to 3-2 going into the six singles matches.

Stevie Duncan was first up in the singles for Legion and defeated Scott Hay. Peter Barrack then pulled one back for Station when he beat Noel Johnston, however Joe Crombie restored Legion’s two point lead with a win against Murray Paterson.

With the score 5-3 in favour of the Legion it meant that the Station had to win all three remaining matches.

Paul Richardson hasn’t lost a singles match all season and he kept up his fine record with a win against Matthew Killicoat to take it to 5-4.

It was a tense affair as Davie Peters took on Station captain Davie Havlin. Peters won the match for Legion “B” with a fine 2-0 victory much to the delight of his teammates.

With the league won it meant the pressure was off as Martin “Skull” Donald went up against Kenny Aitken in the final singles of the season.

Aitken hit his thirteenth 180 of the campaign on his way to a 2-0 victory which meant a final score of Legion “B” 6 Station “A” 5.

It was a fitting climax to an exciting league season. Both sides get a chance to do it all again in a couple of weeks when they battle it out for the Knockout Cup.
