A SMALL group of swimmers from the Garioch Amateur Swimming Club travelled to Buckie Leisure Centre to compete at the Elgin Spring Meet on Saturday and Sunday, (February 18 and 19).
As temperatures plummeted outside, the temperature was equally cold inside the pool as a result of an unfortunate heating malfunction. However, the swimmers managed to brave it and came away with the following medals in their respective age groups:
Thomas Holmes (16): Silver 200 butterfly, 200 freestyle, Bronze 200 backstroke
Ruth Bryce (15): Bronze 200 backstroke
Jessica Thomson (13): Silver 400 freestyle
In addition, there were some personal best times achieved during the meet with Hazel Johnston
(14) getting an impressive six second personal best in the 400 IM Open event. Spencer O’Grady (12) improved the time on all his events, particularly in the 200 breaststroke and 200 freestyle where he took a total of five and three seconds off. Jessica Thomson (13) and Shannon Crawford
(12) swam exceedingly well in the 200 fly gaining a further two seconds personal best whilst Peter
Holmes (14) continued to make progress in the 200 breaststroke by also reducing his time.
Thanks go to the Garioch timekeepers and Coaches Mandi Crawford and Mary Bryce who, despite the circumstances, kept the swimmers spirits up in order to make this a successful meet.
