Methlick 2nds raced to the head of affairs in Grade 4, while its first team came up just short in Grade 1 match, failing to grab the last wicket of Inverurie Don Valley, and had to settle for a draw at Lairds.
Not for the first time this season 2nd team captain Rob Fryer led the way, his unbeaten 42 helping steer the team to its fifth win of the season, enabling them to take over the leadership of the division.
After bowling 2nd Stonehaven out for 114 the Lairds side strolled to an easy nine wicket win, setting up an intriguing clash with second placed Dunecht on Saturday.
Methlick first team came agonisingly close to claiming the maximum, settling instead for 26 points against bottom side Inverurie Don Valley.
Having set a challenging 221 for the loss of nine wickets from only 42 overs the home side looked set to win with some ease, only to be denied by a stubborn last wicket stand as the Garioch side reached 169 after 48 overs.
Stuart Murphy was the Methlick batting hero, ending up with an unbeaten 76, while Tom Acton did the major bowling damage, claiming four wickets for a mere 15 runs. Colin Addison weighed in with two for 25.
The result keeps the Lairds side on the fringe of the title race in Grade 1, but will need to be at their best on Saturday when the they travel to Allan Park where second placed Cults - Artisans will be keen to promote its title aspirations.
