The District 3 finals took place over the last week with mixed fortunes for Ellon, writes Phil Anderson.
In the gents singles final Phil Anderson went down 21-15 to Jason Banks (Inverurie).
In the ladies pairs final Gillian Sinclair and Kathleen Gordon lost six shots over the last two ends to lose by a single shot to Newhills. In the ladies fours final the Ellon rink skipped by Morag McPherson lost out to Balgownie.
There was better news for Ellon in the district mixed pairs final with Ann Singer and Michael Stephen qualifying for the national finals in Ayr.
They beat Dyce 20-5 in the final at Pitmedden in a game that was interrupted for a time due to rain.
In the other gents district final matches played at Balgownie Connor Milne (Tarves) beat Andrew Reilly (Westhill) 21-10.
Kintore won the gents pairs 22-7 against Pitmedden and Westhill won the fours with a 20-10 victory against Kintore.
Oldmeldrum reached the national finals in Ayr for the first time in more than 20 years when their triple of Ian Western, Duncan Reid and Brian Reid qualified in the triples with a 20-8 win against Upper Donside.
John Nicol (Rothienorman) won the senior singles 21-20 against Gordon Dickie (Balgownie) and Balgownie won the senior fours 16-10 against Inverurie.
The Ellon Invitation Triples, sponsored by George Burgess and Son Funeral Directors, took place on Sunday and was won by Ian Ligertwood, Colin Christie and Charlie Ligertwood. The Methlick trio defeated Mark Thurston’s team 7-6 in the final.
