The British Cadet Judo Championships took place in Sheffield on the weekend of December 8 and 9, and there was success for the Judo Players from Garioch Judo.
Stuart McWatt (73kg cadet) missed out narrowly on gold and had to settle for silver while there were bronze medals for Murray wood (46kg cadet) and Olivia Reid (40kg cadet).
Others who took part included fifth place Nordine Adrif and a seventh place for Liam Atkin. Fergus Macfarlane won one and lost two, Lewis mark won one and lost two, Lewis Williamson lost two, Shannon Reid won one and lost two, Morgan Macdonald won one and lost two, and James Littler won two and lost two.
It was also a good day for Garioch Judo at the British Junior Championships in Sheffield the following weekend (December 15 and16). Ross Mark had a great Saturday making it to the second day of fights on his first time at the British Championships. Stuart Mcwatt took a third place and bronze medal having had 11 fights along the way and has again secured his place in the Great Britain team for 2014.
Coach Stuart McWatt said, “I just want to say well done to both fighters at weekend as Ross fought through to the second round in his first outing at the Junior British.”
Ross said, “I knew this was going to be a tough event but I am going home with a few ideas to work on and I will be back next year stronger”.
Garioch Judos other player Stuart McWatt fought his way through all the four rounds placing third overall and after the event he said, “That’s the toughest competition I have done and to come home with a third place, I am simply over-joyed.
“Maintaining my place in the GB squad is a fantastic way to go into 2014. We now head off to a four day training camp in Walsall which will help us all in preparing for next year.”
