The cricket season may be over, but memories of summer days were revived last Friday when Aberdeenshire Cricket Association held its annual dinner in the Holiday Inn at Westhill.
Among the prize winners there were two special awards for Methlick Cricket Club and Ellon Gordon stalwart Ean Mackie.
The winner of the Press Player of the Year for 2015 went to the MCC, marking a departure in procedure, as normally the prestigious award goes to an individual.
‘’This was totally unexpected, but in fairness Methlick has been an emerging force in Grades cricket,” said Alisdair Smith, who accepted the awrad on behalf of the club.
“We are also a club whose roots are firmly in the community.”
The Alan Forbes Memorial Trophy for Outstanding Club Contributions to Grades Cricket was won by veteran Mackie who still turns out for second team games at Ellon.
He has been a tour de force in cricket in the North - east for more years than he cares to remember.
“I am overwhelmed to have been selected to win this award,” he said. “There are surely more deserving cases, but it is a great honour,’’ he said.
The award was presented by Jeanette Forbes in memory of her late husband Alan who was one of the stalwarts of the game in the Aberdeen area.
