A leading supporter of hockey in Ellon has been honoured for her contribution to sport in the community.
Steph Hogg was among 40 Aberdeenshire volunteers to be recognised in the recent Provost’s awards.
She was nominated by Ellon and District Councillor Gillian Owen.
Steph has a long association with the Ellon Ladies hockey team. She went on to play for the Under 15-18 north district and had a training session with Scotland.
Her love for sport led her to undertake an HND in sports coaching with development and following her studies has spent a further 10 years with the Ellon Ladies.
As well as playing for the team, she has served both as outdoor vice-captain and indoor captain, and has trained to be an umpire. Last summer she began sharing her experience with junior players, and represents the hockey club on the Ellon and District Sports Development Trust, which had a key role in the resurfacing of the all-weather pitch.
Other local recipents of Provost’s awards included Glynis Buchan, of Ellon Community Council.
Glynis was instrumental in forming the community-led Ellon jogging group two years ago.
It now has hundreds of members and up to eight different groups running more than once a week. Glynis also organises activities to raise awareness of the group and raise funds for safety vests and other equipment for participants.
She was nominated by community recreation officer Stephen Brown.
