THE sun shone again on the annual Garioch RFC Mini Rugby Tournament at Kellands Park last weekend with over 500 children from all over the North East taking part in a great festival of rugby. The event grows in size each year and this was the largest yet. The standard of rugby was a joy to watch and bodes well for the future of rugby in the North East.
Victory at their own tournament continues to elude the home side but all games were strongly contested and close in score. A huge upsurge in interest in the game, due in large to the Club and SRU incentive to provide rugby in schools, has seen Garioch membership swell to over 100 registered players between the age of 5 and 12.
Squads from, Deeside, Ellon, Grammar, Huntly, Mackie and Aberdeen Wanderers all took part. The group winners were: P4 Grammar, P5 Deeside, P6 Mackie, and P7 Huntly.
