KINTORE Bowling Club held their annual One Day Invitation Tournament on Sunday (June 3) sponsored by Brian Middleton, Garden Machinery, Ashfield Hire Services and Allways Taxis.
The weather was certainly cold for the time of year but didn’t stop teams coming from as far as Longside and Torphins. After all four sections played a round robin format, the holders, Kate MacKintosh, Ann Rogers, Finlay MacKintosh and Ian Anderson met Charlie Heron’s team but were outplayed and lost out 6 – 11.
The other semi-final was more closely contested with Frank Wilson, Ivor Stewart, Kate Stewart and Ron Booth of Kemnay eventually losing out to Jim Whyte’s Inverurie team. The spectators witnessed some high scoring ends in the final with the Kintore team of Andy Duncan Snr, Evelyn Murray, Charlie Heron and Derek Walker getting a five on the second last end to bring the score back up to 8 – 9 but after getting a 4 and a 5 on two ends, Jim Whyte’s team of Irene Whyte, Jack Main, Marion Davidson and Jim Whyte managed to win the last end running out 10-8 winners.
Kintore beat Harlaw six points to two points in the first round of the Aberdeen and Kincardine Association Top Ten Tournament and now meet Kincardine O’Neil in the next round.
