Having won the best team award at the Westhill Invitational Meet the previous week, Garioch’s swimmers did it again, securing the top team trophy at the Ythan ASC Annual meet in Ellon on Saturday (May 10).
This event saw the Club’s youngest squad swimmers compete – and with great success, winning over 20 medals and achieving many PBs into the bargain.
Finley Cousins (11) won gold in the 100 fly, while Cameron Crawford (12) won bronze in the 100 breast. Max Hitchcox (13) won silver in the 100 fly, with Fraser Johnston (14) swimming well to take silver in the 100 fly and bronze in the 100 breast, 100 back and 100 IM. Phelim McNally (12) won gold in the 100 breast and silver in the 100 free and 100IM, with relative newcomer Nicholas Nightingale (13) doing well to win gold in the 100 free, silver in the 100 back and bronze in the 100 fly. Finlay Owen (13) won silver in the 100 breast and bronze in the 100 free, with Conrad Slessor (8) taking bronze in the 100 back.
The girls performed strongly too, with Isla Johnston (11) taking gold in the 100 fly and Gemma Ogg (13) winning gold in both the 100 back and 100 fly. Sister Nicole Ogg took silver in the 100IM and bronze in the 100 fly, with Anya Slessor winning gold in the 100IM.
In a real team performance, there were also great swims from Caitlin Dick, Neil Johnston, Isla McIntosh, Joe Nightingale, Ruth Norrie, Mikey Smith, Lauren Stewart, Hannah Strachan and Beth Thomson. Well done to all the swimmers for all their hard work. Thanks are due, too, to coach Mandi Crawford for her encouragement and support of all the swimmers throughout a tiring day, and to the parents who braved the heat and noise to take on officiating duties.
