The Garioch Sports Centre Junior Running Club is now the “Best Local Activity for five to twelve year olds” in the whole of the UK.

They picked up the National award at a ceremony at Chessington World of Adventure Park in London on Thursday.

The annual awards run by “What’s on 4 Little Ones” and supported by The Children’s Activities Association received 112,000 votes nationwide in various categories with the top 6 finalists up for each award being invited to the awards ceremony.

Activities Manager at the Garioch Sports Centre Mark Wylie BEM said: “On behalf of the GSC I would like to thank everyone who voted for us.

“We are so proud of the kids, the parents who support us, the coaches and our Centre for picking up a National award yesterday in London, especially after being up against some very large organisations around the UK including London’s largest Dance Academy.

“This is fantastic for Inverurie.”

The junior running club was only set up early last year and has already been supported by various Sporting stars including local Olympian swimmer Hannah Miley and Scottish Champion runner Myles Edwards.

GBR Olympic runner Hannah England will also be making a visit to coach later this year.

Various young members of the club are now competing frequently and winning at local events throughout Aberdeenshire.
