Inverurie Golf Club’s annual prize-giving took place over two Fridays with the adults event being followed by the juniors’ presentation.

Some club history was made when Kay Ross finally wrestled the ladies’ scratch title from 16-times winner Julie Henderson, and added that to the handicap championship to become a double

Julie’s work commitments meant she couldn’t participate in the scratch competition which she had won every year since 1999, beating Kay on many occasions.

She finally won the trophy but not without strong competition from the up-and-coming young player Kelly Guthrie, who on the night walked off with a barrowload of prizes and looks like a future champion.

Another piece of history was written when Ben Green followed in his father Derek’s footsteps, some 36 years after his dad had last won the junior title.

Course manager Derek did however remind his son that he managed to win the title three times, a feat 17-year- old Ben would not be able to emulate.

However, Ben also won the much-coveted Solicitors Cup, an adult competition which permits lower handicapped youths to take part in, so he has that in his locker when he becomes an adult player.

Mark Ingram beat Martin McKay to take his brother Greg’s scratch champion title which gave Mark his fifth win in the last 10 years.

The proceedings were followed by a successful race night and disco.

Dons player Barry Robson presented the awards at the junior prize-giving.
