Gault was lying 21st after the initial stage of the three-day event and hopes were high of a strong performance by the time he returned home, with full results due shortly.

The Granite City 25-mile TT took place last Sunday on the A90 course that heads south from Drumlithie to Stracathro before returning to Drumlithie.

Often fast, the course is also routinely hit by the wind and Sunday saw a brisk south westerly that proved tricky on the outward leg before providing some assistance on the journey home.

Fastest on the day was Tom Broadbent (Elgin CC) who finally toppled Tony Hay (Highland Bikes RT) who has been dominating the north time trial scene during 2015.

Fastest from Ythan was Colin Duncan who took 11th with a fine 57m 05s for the 25 miles while Bill Bavidge also broke the hour with a time of 59m 39s.

Peterhead youth rider Callum Cooper made the trip to Laggan in the Highlands to compete in the third round of the Scottish XC MTB series.

Famed for its long, arduous climb and swooping technical single track descent with almost no overtaking opportunities, Callum took fourth place in the U14 race by 0.02 seconds with a fantastic sprint finish.

Cooper is now ranked fifth Under 14 in the Scottish MTB XC Series.
